Entry #8: Microwaves! What? Yes!

Never ask yourself, how does one of the most popular things, what we all use every day, work? Taking out the lyrics, how does the regular microwave work? Ughh, no...? Well, neither do I, but since we're all gathered here, let's figure out it together! :D

According to the name, a microwave oven uses specific waves for its work (microwaves, how unexpected), waves just for example like radio ones, but with lengths way shorter than radio ones. The curious thing is that firstly it was used only for communication needs, and it would probably still be so today if only engineer Percy Spencer hadn't noticed that chocolate in his pocket melting whenever he worked close to the machine, that actively used the microwaves. So now we can say that in every kitchen we have a weird "broken" radio, haha.

But the question is still unanswered, how do those waves happen there, and how do they turn week-old pasta into a food of the gods? Simple saying, every microwave oven has a little generator (also called antenna), that creates waves, which constantly reflect off the inner walls. These waves are too weak to hurt anyhow people, but just perfect to make the molecules in your food start moving, and in this way heating. That is why if an antenna in your microwave oven is broken, all you can get from it is just to watch the food beautifully spins inside. So, if you ever still ask yourself at 3AM how the regular microwave works, now you know the answer!
